What a difference a day makes. Yesterday this time we were trapped in a Groundhog Day experience, filling in time until we could get back on the road. Today we have left Wilmington amidst a cacophony of thousands of birds flying over the campsite.

Camping overnight at Wilmington
When we left the town there were lots of Landies by the side of the road and of course we had to stop to take a photo.

Amazing views driving through Horricks Pass.
You couldn't get scenery more different to the past 10 days of deserts. Rolling voluptuous hills, green and velvety. A few kilometres on we go over a hill and there is the sea. The Gulf of Spencer. Hullo sea we have missed you.

Iron being mined at Iron Knob
A short stop in Port Augusta for groceries and then on towards Ceduna.
We stopped for lunch at a rest area and we cooked a casserole to put in the dreampot for tea. Had some space left so we did a Baked Custard in the top pot. The rest areas here have been rather awful, no toilets and so full of toilet paper and worse everywhere.

Tea done
Afterwards we changed our plans and decided to spend the night at Streaky Bay mainly because Geoff liked the sound of that. We drove kilometres through harvested wheat fields and through swarms of locusts which we had to pick out of the intercooler in the morning.
The location didn't quite measure up to our expectations as it was a bay more like Phillip Bay than Maitland Bay. It had a strong current and had a lot of seaweed. The Caravan Park we stayed at was new, had only been open 2 weeks and it was like an old people's home on wheels.
We went for a walk on the pebbly beach. It was so windy. By the time we got back to the van it was swaying around something awful in the wind. This persisted for a few hours until the sun set and then things calmed down. Had our tea, watched some Netflix and snuggled down in our little home away from home.
