Freemantle

We left our free camping spot a little tired. What should have been a quiet night was interrupted first by a truck unloading his load to IGA over the period of an hour, cars and trucks rattling over the bridge and the park sprinklers turning on and saturating apour chairs.  It didn't stop us from BBQing a lovely breakfast of bacon and eggs.  Before leaving York we checked out the Residency which Was built during the 1850's as the Depot Superintendant's Quarters, where convicts were hired out. This  house is now the last remaining part of York's Convict Depot. It later became the official home of the town's Resident Magistrate hence the name, the Residency. During the early twentieth century it was used as part of the Old York Hospital, later being saved from disrepair by the efforts of the York Society. It opened as a Municipal Museum in 1972 and continues to be managed by the Shire of York, with help from community volunteers. Down the street was the former York hospital now a private house and the maternity wing.
We drove to Northon on our way to Fremantle as it was supposed to have even more heritage buildings than York but it wasn't a very interesting place. We were a little shell shocked coming into Fremantle with the traffic as it had been so long since we were in a city.  We set up camp and then drove into Fremantle and had a look around, booking our tickets to Rottnest.
